Steps to set up a tennis scoreboard

Pick a formatBest of 3 for club, women's pro, juniors and most ATP events or best of 5 for men's Grand Slam matches.
Decide the final-set ruleTiebreak in the final set (Australian Open, US Open, Wimbledon since 2019) or advantage set (older format).
Choose first serveToss or spin determines who serves the opening game. The board flips serving automatically or manually every game.

How the score updates

Tennis scoring layers three counters. Within a game, points run 0 (love) → 15 → 30 → 40 → game, with deuce and advantage at 40-40. Six games (with a margin of two) win a set, with a tiebreak to 7 played at 6-6. Two or three sets win the match depending on the format. The board updates all three layers from a single tap.

Tip - no-ad scoringCollege and many recreational leagues use no-ad scoring: the next point at deuce wins the game. Disable advantage in the settings to switch.

Tennis scoring system

Love & 15 & 30 & 40 - The historical scoring system, possibly originating from clock faces. Each won point moves a player to the next score.
Deuce - At 40-40 a player must win two points in a row to win the game. The first wins "advantage"; the second wins the game. Lose the next and the score returns to deuce.
Tiebreak - First to 7 points (win by 2) decides a 6-6 set. Players switch ends every 6 points and serve alternates after the first point and then every 2 points.
Match Tiebreak - Some formats (most doubles, Olympics, ATP Cup) replace the third set with a 10-point tiebreak (win by 2). Toggle via the format options.

FAQ

Does the board handle deuce and advantage automatically?

The score counter moves through 0/15/30/40 and into deuce/advantage on each tap. At advantage, the next point either wins the game or returns to deuce.

Can I change tiebreak rules mid-match?

The set/match format is fixed at creation, but you can edit the live match settings at any time if a rain delay or rule change requires it.

Does it work for doubles?

The board treats team and singles names the same way and they have the same rules. Set both player names of the pair ("Smith & Jones") when you create the match.
